I had a similar problem with Kppp but i dont know if i could ping as i didnt try. First check to see if you can connect using redhats connection tool. I have gotten kppp to work by entering my dns ip address into /etc.resolv.conf got the dns from /var/log/messages. But that would suggest that pining would still work, but its worth a try i suppose.
i had the same problem as you did just open the messages file (/var/log/messages) and then search for the word "DNS" once you find that take down the ip address, then go here: /etc.resolv.conf and type in "nameserver ipaddress"
Forgive me if I'm posting in the wrong place, but I had the same issue w/ kppp. It finally is working. I'm posting from Linux, but I have NO idea why this turned out okay. I reinstalled Red Hat 9 3 times hoping to fix anything I might've "broken". I'm very new to Linux.
My question is two fold:
1) Why did the problem occur? (Not just how to fix it)
2) How can I go online using kppp without having to enter my root password? (Yes, I know, bad form..leaving root vulnerable like this. .. )
