Please help! KPPP problem :(

I was using fedora core 2 test 1 a few days ago...have been for months, and kppp worked great, right out of the box..

Well, I got the final release of fedora core 2, did a fresh install...and now have problems.

It connects, dials, and signs in...yet I can't browse, or ping...or do anything. Nothing responds no matter what I do, yet it dials and signs in.

I'm on windows right now, trying to figure out my problem. Response will be apreciated! (I can't stand being on windows now ).

I had a similar problem with Kppp but i dont know if i could ping as i didnt try. First check to see if you can connect using redhats connection tool. I have gotten kppp to work by entering my dns ip address into /etc.resolv.conf got the dns from /var/log/messages. But that would suggest that pining would still work, but its worth a try i suppose.

i had the same problem as you did just open the messages file (/var/log/messages) and then search for the word "DNS" once you find that take down the ip address, then go here: /etc.resolv.conf and type in "nameserver ipaddress"

All of that is of course without quotes

I had the same problem before with earlier versions of knoppix. Try this

1. First locate where pppd and kppp are.(whereis or locate command)

2. do #chmod u+s /(location)/pppd
#chmod u+s /(location)/kppp

-also you might try chmod'ing your browser executable like above but it is not necessary.I had to do it with opera before but not anymore lately.

3.connect using kppp.

Well, I fixed it!

I did as a person said above, and look in /var/logs/messages/

Found my DNS Ip...and added it in through the kppp program. Worked right off

Similiar issues w/ KPPP

Forgive me if I'm posting in the wrong place, but I had the same issue w/ kppp. It finally is working. I'm posting from Linux, but I have NO idea why this turned out okay. I reinstalled Red Hat 9 3 times hoping to fix anything I might've "broken". I'm very new to Linux.

My question is two fold:
1) Why did the problem occur? (Not just how to fix it)
2) How can I go online using kppp without having to enter my root password? (Yes, I know, bad form..leaving root vulnerable like this. .. )
