Playing WMV in Mplayer gives codec error

I put the 'all-20050412' codec pack in /usr/local/lib/codecs
which contains the wmvmod.dll codec for playing .wmv movies,
but im still getting a codec error when I play a .wmv file.
This is driving me nuts.
Mplayer website says this is the location to put the pack.
I don't understand whats wrong.
need help.

Hello

I've put them in /usr/local/lib/win32. You might try that.

Have a lot of fun

yes that works, for most .wmv files but some play with lots of artifacts.
i get a 'too many packets' error. I think it was 'packets' it might have
been somthing else, can't remember.
Any way thanks for the info.
