ntop password authentication problem

I've installed ntop from source per recent posts by one of the developers. It works fine, now. However, I'm having problem with the password authentication. If I try to go into config startup in the browser GUI, I get a password dialog. Putting in the username and password returns the dialog, or an authentication error, depending on the browser, but no configuration screen. I've reset the password several times to no avail. It always returns a positive response when I reset it, but when I try to use it, it doesn't work. Anyone have an idea what I could be overlooking?
