NDC selects wrong driver name, can't change

My corrupted install of FC2 is hard to use, esp. when clicking and dragging are concerned, but it still connects to my LAN. The new install works well in other respects, but can't see the NIC. Apparently this is because the network device controller shows, under Hardware | Edit, RTL-8169 Gigabit Ethernet driver 1.1.2. The old one shows simply r8169, which is the name of the module, which is installed in both. Since the name is grayed, I can't change it directly in the NDC. I have grepped for it and found nothing. There must be a file somewhere that I have to edit, but which one?
The NIC (RTL-8169) is built into my MSI K8T Neo motherboard (also my K8M Neo-V), to connect with a Siemens 2614 router. I had a hard time getting the old install to see it, and don't know what I did to make it work. I struggled for days and finally it worked.
The K8M Neo-V is in a w2k system and I'm not having much luck with it either. My old portables (P233/w98 and P133/w95) see it just fine.

I found my own problem. After switching that disk to another machine, where it didn't work at all because of an X problem, I put it back and thought to check my default gateway number. There was none! I put in the IP address of my router, and immediately was able to connect to the internet. I haven't check to see what the NDC says about the NIC--"if it ain't broke, don't fix it."
