Mouse problem with kernel 2.6.7
I just installed Fedora Core 2 after a bad experience with Mandrake 10.0, and everything is OK, with a few exceptions.
I have a logitech MX-310 (ps2 wheel mouse), and it works ok with kernel 2.6.5 that came with the fc2 install. It also works under Windows XP, but who cares about that.
I ran up2date to get the latest kernel, 2.6.7, and the mouse doesn't work at all. If I move the mouse, it jumps all across the screen, and it randomly does left mouse clicks.
This happens in the login screen, as well as in gnome2, kde. I have it configured as a generic 3 button mouse (ps2). My /etc/sysconfig/mouse has the following:
FULLNAME="Generic - 3 Button Mouse (PS/2)"
MOUSETYPE="imps2"
XEMU3="no"
XMOUSETYPE="IMPS/2"
DEVICE=/dev/input/mice
Fortunately I can choose the prior kernel when I boot, so it's not a big problem, but I'd like to solve it. BTW, where do you do your hardware config changes with FC2? I found the Hardware Browser app, but it doesn't allow you to make any changes. Mandrake had a utility for it, but I haven't found one with FC2.
The other problem I ran across is that I can't make any menu changes with gnome. It appears the menu is read-only, even if I log in as root. I installed Firefox 0.9.3, and I can't add it to the $&#@! menu.
I'm a newbie to linux, but I've had many years experience with HP/Sun unix in the corporate world.
Thanks for any help!
