How to I modify 2 files that allow root to log on to gui terminal?

How to I modify inittab to default on non gui terminal at boot time?

and, how to I append initab contents to file another file?

Hi there,

Welcome to LQ!!!

Answers to your queries:

1. It is not at all a good idea to login to GUI terminal using root account because of security reasons.

2.
Code:
vi /etc/inittab
scroll down a bit and you will find something which says: id:5:initdefault: change it to 3 from 5 and it will take you to run level 3 which provide all functionality except GUI.

3. When you say you want to append conntents of inittab file to another file you can use the following command:
Code:
cat /etc/inittab >> /location_of_another_file/name_of_another_file
I hope this helps.
