Media Player

Ive been downloading things using the add remove programs feature trying to guess what will allow me to play my avi files. I see that movie player is actually xine but it needs a frontend which I dont know how to install or even which one for that matter. I also have realplayer 10 but that just pulls up helix player update page when I click check for updates. So my question is, what can IO download off the add remove programs thing that will allow me to play my avi and dvd's?

cant you just run xine from command line and it displays the GUI? or maybe gxine? or xine-ui? check the official xinehq site for frontends to download. or MPlayer for other video.. theres tons.
