Thumbs up Make a schedul job

I want to learn how to build scheduled tasks, but can be necessary learn scripts before(?) for job examples like this:
1-make a tar or zip for several files in a local ext3 mounted disk (ie: /home/user_name/apps.. )
2-Copy the compressed file into another samba network machine (Win2000 exactly)
3-Several config options for this task: every day, hours, date to start, one run only, etc. etc.

Which way to start should I take?

FC4 64-bit/HP dx5150 MT, Gnome build-in GUI.

You'll need to learn bash scripting as a minimum, or better, Perl.
If you can simplify your date / time requirements, you can use the built-in scheduler ie cron:
man cron
man crontab
Alternately, you can write a daemon (ie a prog that always runs) and get it to periodically check a config file.
Actually, you could run a prog from cron often enough and get that to check a cfg file.
