Question low memory!!HOW to RUN SYSTEM EFFICIENTLY

Hello
I'm using f10 and i used to have 768 MB of ram (512+256) [64MB of 768 goes to graphics card ] and 2GB of swap .But now i've only have 512MB RAM due some problems .With 786MB RAM compiz, gtk window decorator and other apps ran very well with no problems. After downgrading to 512 i had problems with the gtk and compiz fusion and running applications primarily.

>>>>>>> The gtk window decorator is disappearing everytime when the system is running at full.Is this because of the low memory ??????? Before it ran apps happily without hanging the system but now the gtk window decorator is vanishing and the "system hangs" . I'm unable to run the screenlets ,apply new themes and icons and enable the other stuff like compiz features and primarily the applications .Its also "SLUGGISH"

>>>>>>>>Please help me find out a way how to run efficiently with "LOW RAM". I need to atleast run the applications without "hanging"

Thanks In Advance

Even 512 M ought to be enough, maybe not for the fastest speed, but for operation without crashing.

Is there any sign of frantic swapping (lots of activity from the hard disk, as evidenced by, for example, by the hard disk light)?

Let looks to my system Intel dual 1,8 MHz 4 GB RAM Fedora 10 x86_64
If only LXDE Gui is loaded I already use 374,9 MIB
Firefox loaded 460.8 MIB
Compiz is not running no effects nothing special
AS I have 4 GB no problem at all
Beside the RAM use there a lot of cron jobs running hourly ,daily weekly
monthly all made by the system , and they are use full .
But when they are running it takes system resources .
LXDE has on the task bar always CPU monitor running sometimes 50% of CPU is used
I try all the GUIS for me LXDE is the fastest
