Logon Problem - What the...

I have Fedora Core 3 installed, with SELinux.

About three days ago I suddenly became unable to logon to my server!

When I logon at the console I get the username prompt, I put in my username and it immediately asks for my username again!

I never get a password prompt and it never lets me logon. It doesn't matter what username I put in, it just immediately cycles back to the username prompt.

When I try and logon using SSH from another machine I do get a password prompt but my server IMMEDIATELY closes the connection.

All of the essential services are still running, Samba, Apache, FTP etc...

I can boot into single user mood using Grub, but once I'm there what should I be looking for?

I'm not a total n00b but I've never experienced this before, can someone help me?

What changes did you make right before you were unable to log into your box anymore? That's a good place to start. Are you using PAM? This could be a PAM configuration issue.

Last time I was managed this box I told KUDZU to run at start because I was configuring a printer. I managed to get SSHd in (I forgot that I had disabled root ssh access, so logged in with another account and SUd up) then turned off KUDZU and rebooted.

It let me right in.

What the heck does a hardware discovery tool have to do with logon???

Thanks for the kick in the head suggestion though, it was just what I needed!
