Kernel 2.6 - "keybdev" and "mousedev"

Kernel 2.6 - "keybdev" and "mousedev"

Hi, I've just installed the new 2.6.5 kernel from people.redhat.com/arjanv/2.5/RPMS.kernel/ following the tutorial at fullo.altervista.org/phpwiki/index.php?FedoraKernel2.6

When I rebooted in verbose mode, there were 2 error lines saying:

Initialing USB Keyboard : Fatal : Modul Keybdev not found [FAILED]

Initialing Mouse : Fatal : Modul Mousedev not found [FAILED]

When I logged in Fedora I did not have mouse support, but I had keyboard support.

I'm using a cordless usb keyboard and mouse, I did not have any problem with 2.4 kernel version.

I read another tutorial that said : "Other modules that changed: "keybdev" into "usbkbd" and "mousedev" into "usbmouse".

Does anybody know something about it?
Greetings

I think the tutorial you refer about is from Fedoranews.org. That tutorial says to modify your /etc/modprob.conf file with some USB alias statements. Try adding the following to your /etc/modprob.conf:

alias usb-controller uhci-hcd
alias keybdev usbkbd
alias mousedev usbmouse

The way the Linux kernel handles USB devices changed slightly with 2.6, which is why you might have problems going from 2.4 to 2.6. It talks about this in the tutorial above.

I hope this helps.

Failing to have mouse support when logged into X on a 2.6 kernel may also indicate you have not changed the mouse device used by X, in 2.6 it should be different. Make this change in /etc/X11/XF86Config

Code:
        Option "Device" "/dev/psaux"
should be changed to:
Code:
        Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
