Keeping everything on one monitor with Xinerama
Bear with me.
I am using a Nvidia 7600GT card. Primary monitor is a 17" LCD, secondary is a Panasonic LCD HDTV using DVI to HDMI. I have no interest in the TV except for DVD use. My wife (Mrs. if it doesn't work we just hit it until it does) liked the Windows options of having fullscreen video on monitor 2 while it was playing on monitor 1. She'd pop a DVD into the computer and up on the TV it would come. Now, I can duplicate that with Xine and Xinerama by setting the default DVD playback to be xine --xineramafull and changing the .xine/config file to start it at X+1280, Y+0, resolution of 1280X720 etc etc. All is fine in love and warfare.
BUT
The television is located to the right of the computer. Right now I am typing this on my monitor and to my right is a lovely blue desktop from Gnome. Now, the next window I open on my desktop is going to appear on that screen. That is a HUGE pain in the ass, because most of the time I don't even have the television on for obvious power and lamp reasons, and even if I do, it means my head is on a swivel switching to my right and back again.
So here, longwindedly (nice word) is my question. Actually, two questions:
1. Is there any way to force everything to open only on my default LCD monitor and ignore the second one with Xinerama on?
2. Is there anything else I can do with Xine to start DVDs at the correct aspect ratio, fullscreen on my television while using clone mode so I don't have hidden window issues?
Any help would raise you to the rank of master of all Linux in my eyes. Or at least warrant a beer on me.
