Recopy the command from the above post. The forum software automatically compressed the URL (the "HTTP://" address - it inserted the "..." in the middle of the URL). I redited my posts to fix the URLs. The last forum I used didn't do this, and it's really annoying. It looks like I have to turn it off manually on every post, since it's not an option in the user configuration. Damn!

I'm Sorry to bother you one more time but it seems to go almost all the way but it ends quite abruptly on this:
[deps: lzo 1.08-4.1.fc2.rf.i386]
Downloading Packages
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/bin/yum", line 30, in ?
yummain.main(sys.argv[1:])
File "/usr/share/yum/yummain.py", line 339, in main
clientStuff.download_packages(tsInfo)
File "/usr/share/yum/clientStuff.py", line 1224, in download_packages
rc = rpmUtils.checkSig(rpmloc)
File "/usr/share/yum/rpmUtils.py", line 70, in checkSig
error, siginfo = getSigInfo(hdr)
File "/usr/share/yum/rpmUtils.py", line 86, in getSigInfo
sigtype, sigdate, sigid = siginfo.split(',')
ValueError: unpack list of wrong size
Don't worry about it. I know this is confusing when you start out. In a month, this will be a breeze.
In the messages above, it's trying to get package "lzo 1.08-4.1.fc2.rf.i386". The ".rf." in the name means that it's coming from the DAG repository (that's how they name their files). The "unpack list of wrong size" means that the file is either in the process of being changed, or that an error occurred in transmission (or that the package is really bad in the repository).
You can either wait a half-hour to see if the problem clears (that would confirm that the repository was being updated), or you can try to work around it. To work around it, you can try to get the package from somewhere else, by disabling the DAG repository when you retrieve that package:
yum --disablerepo=dag install lzo
If that's successful, then when you reissue the full yum command, it will no longer look for the lzo package, because it will already be installed.

something must be wrong
humm I've been trying over and over again but it always ends with the same message that the package size is wrong something. Isn't it a possibility that there is something wrong with my settings somewhere hope somebody has some idea where it could be wrong I have also tried asking for some other programs like avidemux and it does the same thing as with the above
But at least it finds some package before it didn't.
Well, if the package itself isn't bad, then there's a possibility that the software you're using to get it is. Have you applied maintenance to your system to bring it up to date? If not, then you may be experiencing bugs that were fixed 5 months ago.
To update your system, run up2date. I don't suggest doing a global system update from yum, with repositories enabled.
At the very least, make sure you have a current version of yum:

I got it finally almost everything
the past days have been a lot of fun OK to start up with I tried updating my yum and got the reply that I had the latest version then I dug up the up2date application which had been laying buried for a while on my system so I tried updating my system and it didn do much of a difference I got more or less the same errors so I kept searching for other options And ended up finding someone talking about synaptic and I went there and found apt and synaptic and installed them:
With synaptic I was able to get stuff like The mp3 support and I got Lame and all kind of stuff. and I also saw an option for system upgrade and decided to try it out and the result was I got an error some some things could not be updated and I started getting a lot of error pop ups both from synaptic and gnome so I decided to restart the xserver but after the restart it was all different the login was just a simple white box on blue background and When I logged in I found myself in a failsafe terminal. I thought oh well I'll try upgrading the system but the upgrade always stopped on a X11 package that it was unable to install and The computer was almost the same after wards it claimed it was fedora core 3 and the terminal was More maneuverable but allot of programs were broken, in the end I got my data out of there with life CD to my other computer and did a fresh install.
In the end I'm quite happy that I did ruin my system with synaptic because this one is so much better and I've installed almost every program I've been struggling to install in the past 6 months so it is quite a good thing.
Well there is one thing I'd like to contribute that I've found out:
In the FC2 version of Yum there is no option for disabling repositories instead you have to make a new con fig file without the particular repository and make yum use it with the option: "-c config file location"
in the end I have a question: I have been trying to install the program avidemux and I get an error I don really understand:
[root@lina Til að skipta bíómyndum]# rpm -ivh avidemux2-2.0.36-2.1.fc3.rf.i386.rpm
villa: avidemux2-2.0.36-2.1.fc3.rf.i386.rpm: V3 DSA signature: BAD, key ID 6b8d79e6
villa: avidemux2-2.0.36-2.1.fc3.rf.i386.rpm cannot be installed
[root@lina Til að skipta bíómyndum]#
It looks like there should be some signature but I don know what so can anyone help me out what the problem could be and what to do about it.
BTW sorry I just copied the output and the system prints some of the words in y language and villa means error or fault.
Thanx
First, sorry about the problems, and I'm glad you're back at a stable point. I'm also confused; you had indicated you were running FC3, but it sounds like your were really running FC2? If so, using mismatching repositories was probably the source of the very badly behaving system you ended up with. You are on FC3 now, right?
The message you're getting indicates that you need to install the GPG keys prior to running any of the maintenance tools (rpm apt, or yum). To install the keys, rerun the "Import the gpg keys for the software repositories" portion of post #3, above.
Also, in general, if you are using rpm directly, you want to use the "-Uvh" option instead of "-ivh"; both will install a new package. The difference is that "-U" will first check to see if that package is already installed, and if so, update it (while making sure you don't accidently backlevel the software). The "-i" option will install a second copy of the same software, which is rarely useful (the kernel being a notable exception).

Well there is nothing to be sorry about all this has caused me to learn a lot about Linux and now I know why you didn recommend a global update with all repositories enabled.
To straighten out I was running Fedora Core 2 tettnang when I started bothering this thread but now Iḿ running a clean install of fedora core 3 Heidelberg.
I tried reimporting the gpg keys again but I think the problem was actually a bad download I didn think of it before
So thanks allot for the help and itś good to know that there is someone who cares to help others out in their problems hopefully I can be some help later when I have learned more
