Red face Is the GPG signature really nessesary when updating?

I'm new to Linux, I first installed Red Hat 9, I then found out that it was hard to get updates for that old version of Linux. Someone suggested that I try Fedora. I downloaded and installed Fedora Core 4 and it seemed to be fine until I started looking for updates. I finally gathered up all the packages that I thought I needed and started downloading. I kept getting a message saying that the package didn't have a GPG signature, and do you want to continue? So I just went ahead and continued, when it was all done, the install failed and I clicked on OK and it was gone.
Before I track down these files and try to install them again, I would like to know if this is a good idea. Should I only install packages w/ the GPG signature? Please help, and I thank you in advance.

You can install the Fedora Core gpg keys by doing,
Code:
#rpm --import /etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY*
You don't really need the gpg keys but they are important for authenticating the origin of packages in the repositories.

Smile Thanks

Thanks so much for your timely response, although I'm still new to all of this I think I'm going to like Linux and the sense of belonging to a community. Someday maybe I'll gain enough experience to help someone else, thanks again.
