Intel 810 sound issue with FC2

All,

Has anyone experienced sound issues with the intel 810 and FC2?

With a clean install. The test sound didn't play. All I hear is scratching sounds whenever a sound plays. I was running FC1 without any issues, however I wasn't running the ALSA stuff.

I have checked the modules.conf and it looks like a normal ALSA setup. I checked the logs and everything seems to start fine except "mdmpd" but I am not sure what this is yet. I am not quite sure where to start t-shooting this. Any ideas would be grateful.

Here is my modprobe.conf from FC2

alias snd-card-0 snd-intel8x0
install snd-intel8x0 /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install snd-intel8x0 && /usr/sbin/alsactl restore >/dev/null 2>&1 || :
remove snd-intel8x0 { /usr/sbin/alsactl store >/dev/null 2>&1 || : ; }; /sbin/modprobe -r --ignore-remove snd-intel8x0

And here is the old one from FC1

alias sound-slot-0 i810_audio
post-install sound-slot-0 /bin/aumix- (blah blah blah)
pre-remove sound-slot-0 /bin/aumix-(blah blah blah)

Thanks,

You're not the only one having trouble with ALSA and FC2.

Try running system-config-soundcard. Do you hear the test sound?

That's not good news!

I ran it and I do not hear the test sound. After I press no it says that 'automatic detection of the sound card did not work'.

I guess I will keep looking around!

You might try running /usr/sbin/alsaconf (as root) to see if it correctly detects your sound chip.

There are several bugzilla entries relating to intel sound and FC2 at bugzilla.redhat.com. If one of those is similar to your problem, the answer will probably show up there first.

Good luck.... (I bet they get this ironed out soon.)

I am having the same problem with a Soundblaster Live! card. The sound card on my mother board does work, however. Both cards are detected, but the Soundblaster card does not play, neither in system-config-soundcard or elsewhere. With Fc1 the Soundblaster card worked, but I had never tested the motherboard's soundcard. Has anyone with two soundcards gotten them both to work.
