I'm trying to install GTK+ on FC2. IT requires cairo, pango, glib and atk. Currently, olde versions of glib, pango and at k are installed on my system. I want to upgrade them. However, I don;'t find rpms for the latest versions of the above. Only tar.gz sources a re available.
For instance, the currently installed version og glib is glib-1.2.10-12.1.1(rpm).I want glib-2.8.2. I can't find an rpm for it though. How do I upgrade???
I have managed to install the latest version of cairo from tar.gz source and glib-2.8.2.tar.gz but they aren't being recognised while i try tp compile gtk-2.8.3. Any suggestions??
Distribution: Fedora 18, Puppy Linux, various others

There's always some lag between the introduction of the latest version and the building of a package for it. For compatablity reasons, and because it's simpler, I just use the fedora rpms. They're not that far behind, and they're compatable with one another. And yum can resolve(usually) dependancies. Good luck!
edit: My primary reason for using packages is that they can be easily removed if you decide to do so. RPM knows where it puts each file. When installing from source you don't always know where they are; amking them dificult to remove.

First of all, you are using FC2, which has been discontinued a while ago, so you are not getting new versions of software. Perhaps you should upgrade to FC4 if you want the latest versions. Also, glib 2.x are in the package called "glib2".
Hi
I was trying to install mpeg4ip(one of its dependencies being GTK+) on FC4 previously. I faced a lot of problems there and it didn't work out. So i decided to try it on FC2. I think i broke my server today. Did an 'rpm -e --nodeps' as root. I've done that before and it didnt cause any problems so used it again to remove old \versions of glib. N now i gotta reinstall linux.
