I just have to say how happy I am with Fedora Core 1
I've heard alot of negativity surrounding Fedora lately and I really can't understand why. Just like every other distro there are bound to be bugs. Especially for a new release! Anyways I just wanted to say that I've successfully gotten IceWM, Blackbox, Fluxbox and Enlightenment (a seriously cool X manager that I reccomend everyone try) to load on Fedora. So there are some differences in setting up the Session Manager to load these other desktops. If you want the info let me know and I will post it.
I'm with you. I really like FC1
I have been able to get everything I have tried to work on it.
My first taste of linux was knoppix/Debian
I had some USB problem when I install Debian to the HD
I'm sure someone smarter then me could have got it to work, but I could not.
My first impressions are the same as yours! This is the first distro that i have found the CD to be able to play music. Maybe this is part of the reason for my optimism? I have previously spent long periods with various versions of Suse ending with 8.2! The only problem at present is internet connection! More help appears to be available with the distro itself?
I have to agree with a few of the folks here. I mean there's a good reason to come down on Redhat for being a sellout of some sorts since they've grown so much the past few years. The past 2 weeks I've messed with about 4-5 different distributions. If you're using wireless stuff like me and countless others on here, you've probably run into a wall getting your wireless device detected, even moreso for USB based wireless device. Fedora & Knoppix were the 2 best as far as hardware detection, Mandrake was simple, but still buggy. I really couldn't care if Redhat released this Distro to Fedora, if it works(doesn't have to be perfect), it's reliable, and it's freely available, that satisfies my criteria for what Linux has always been about, just a way to get away from Windows for awhile, hope Fedora stays around.

I agree with the rest of you folks. I switched from RH9 To FC1 about a month ago or so and have had great luck. I especially enjoyed the display manager It set up my Two video cards flawlessly(didn't even have to edit the xf86config file). In my oppinion its a great distro.
Redhat and Fedora's Annaconda are right up there when it comes to probing and setting up the hardware. It was a tossup to either go Fedora or Debian. I ended up going to Debian, since it seemed to run a lot faster, with less of the aps bugging out. Maybe it's my comp, or some other things I could have done to streamline my Fedora setup, but it did seem to take forever at times to just bootup to my login screen. It seems to go with most Redhat systems, I've used Redhat a few years since ver 6.2. Debian can be a royal pain during installation, lots of time even for basic hardware detection, but if the kinks are worked out and you get a good install, you'll be very pleased with its overall stability, and capability to upgrade packages, and updates(using apt, etc.) Still a thumbs up for Fedora, Core 2 may be even better, I think it at least deserves a chance
