Howto lock in Resolution in Xorg.conf

FC12-x86_64/KDE

How can I lock in the 1024x768 resolution in xorg.conf ?

The Option PreferredMode is Ignored , checking in Xorg-0-log.

If I put in Modes "1024x768" it gets changed everytime I reboot.

I'm using the Nvidia driver.

Can't use the nouveau driver, the mouse disappears when waking the computer up after about a half hour of sleep, then I have to restart computer to get mouse to reappear.

An ordinary user cannot permanently change the display settings.

1) su
2) system-config-display

.. Or ..
2a) nvidia-settings

.... should do the trick , I guess.
....

Or add a "Screen Section" to xorg.conf
Code:
Section "Screen"
    Identifier "screen1"
    Device "device1"
    Monitor "monitor1"
    DefaultColorDepth 24

    Subsection "Display"
        Depth 24
        Modes "1024x768" "832x624" "800x600" "640x480"
    EndSubsection
EndSection

Everytime I put the Modes "1024x768" in SubSection > "Display" and reboot the computer, something is removing the Modes line from xorg.conf.

The only new thing around in Fedora 12 is the nouveau files.

I still have those, one day I may change to the real nvidia drivers.

If the nouveau scripts can make unforeseen behavior,
may be have a look at this ..

.. Well, it really does change / set the mode.
Wouldn't have believed it before I read it again.

How could you apply these settings resolutions for "nvidia"

post # 1 : /boot/grub/grub.conf → nouveau.modeset=0 vga=31B

Leave the "nouveau" out ??

Or put nvidia.modeset ??

Did you read the link, post # 4.

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...lution-771248/

Looks like the nouveau issues are clearly explained ?
Including all vga modes :
1600x1200 - 346
1280x1024 - 31B
1400x1050 - 348
1024x768 - 318
.....
