ns-2 is a network simulation software that can be install on linux.
ns-allinone-2.31 is a release of ns-2.
You can find some info at http://www.isi.edu/nsnam/ns/ns-build.html.

Question Me too facing the same problem

I had also tried installing NS2 in FC7 but it shows problems..
The snapshots can be viewed here..
Snapshot 1:
http://www.orkut.com/AlbumZoom.aspx?...74465133&pid=2

Snapshot 2:
http://www.orkut.com/AlbumZoom.aspx?...74465133&pid=3

But in the Readme file that is found inside the allinone folder, it is given that we just need to type ./install
But the First installation step goes in search of xgraph
Unfortunately i cannot find any file of directory wth the name xgraph inside the extracted gzip folder of ns-2.31

The read me file also says the ns2.31 distribution features:
- Tcl Tcl release 8.4.5 (required component)
- Tk Tk release 8.4.5 (required component)
- Otcl otcl release 1.9 (required component)
- TclCL tclcl release 1.16 (required component)
- Ns ns release 2.28 (required component)
- TclDebug tcl-debug relase 1.9 (optional component)
- Nam Nam release 1.11 (optional component)
- Xgraph xgraph version 12 (optional component)
- GT-ITM Georgia Tech Internetwork
Topology Modeler (optional component)
- SGB Stanford GraphBase
package (optional component)
- CWEB CWeb version 1.0 (?) (optional component)
- ZLib zlib version 1.1.4 (optional component)

again most of the components were not present inside the 2.31 distro

Probably, the ns-allinone-2.31 you downloaded have some problems. u should download it again for i can find the directory wth the name xgraph inside the extracted gzip folder of ns-2.31.u can find some info at http://www.isi.edu/nsnam/ns/ns-build.html.

I problem is when I install on fedora7.
the result is:
Make: *** No rule to make target 'VERSION', needed by 'gen/version.c'.
Stop.
Ns make failed!
See http://www.isi.edu/nsnam/ns/ns-problem.html for problems.

I had installed several times. but the result is the same.
I don't know how to solve it.
