How to add DVD drive to /dev


I use Fedora Core 2. I ve a DVD drive,but its not shown up in the /dev/dvd directory.
Instead its being shown as /dev/cdrom. Hence I can't directly play DVDs using the video players (mplayer).pls hlp me to fix this!!.
How I can make my drive pointed to /dev/dvd

Hi,

your DVD drive is probably /dev/hdX where X is a letter. If that's "a" (so hda) it means that your DVD drive is master on 1rst IDE cable, hdb means slave for first IDE... hdc, master for 2nd IDE wire... and that's /dev/sdX if that's a SCSI drive.
so to make your DVD drive to be seen as /dev/dvd, just create a symlink: ln -s /dev/hdc /dev/dvd or ln -s /dev/cdrom /dev/dvd
