I would like to really thank you even I do not understand why it works. But your fix works for me in FC6. I was looking quite long for solution.
Anyway, after applied the fix I found that my FAT partition is gone from Places, as well as an icon from the Desktop even the partition is added to fstab and is mouted. Before I applied your fix CD/DVD devices weren't working but I could see FAT partition in Places and on the Desktop.

In /etc/fstab I do have

/dev/hda5 /data vfat users,rw,auto,defaults,umask=0000 0 0

Maybe you or someone know why this partition disapeared from the Desktop and Places?
