FYI: yum-3.2.27 query errors.

just wanted to post my experience so far.

Issue: using package manager to search produces error: to many values in query causing package manager to crash

After doing some searching found one fix was to get the files located yum-3.2.27-2.fc12.src.rpm and also get the correct version ( 32-64 ) of PackageKit.

Code i used:
Code:
rpm -aiU http://kojipkgs.fedoraproject.org/packages/PackageKit/0.5.7/2.fc12/x86_64/PackageKit-0.5.7-2.fc12.x86_64.rpm'
replace the actual package address with your platform.

I had a hard time with the above method due deps involved with installing the newer PackageKit (would love more input from a guru). My workaround was to just downgrade yum one version ( the update that broke everything was not a security patch from i understand). I just used
Code:
su -c 'yum downgrade yum'

EDIT: dont flame me for trying to be helpful. if i did it wrong please let me know. 8u

hope this helps.

First thing I'd do is check the Fedora bug tracker. Fedora moves at high speed and so does support. Many bugs get tracked and workarounds slash solutions posted. BTW: posting actual error messages instead of just saying you had problems might be more effective.

ahh ok. i did report it to bug tracker and its something to do with perl. which happens to be a recuring issue with fedora 12 in my case. but just to get the info you said i should post if performed an upgrade. oddly, i cant seem to reproduce the error.

if your watching this thread could you answer a quick question? is VMware run as an os b4 linux boots or do you have to install linux and then a VM? sorry if it sounds stupid.
amd x64 2gig ram sata300 750gb hdd 256vram <<will this run vmware with 2 operating sytems ok? or would i better off to dual or triple boot. i wanted to know so i could do the set up today.
thanks

If you fix things (either way) then you shouldn't be able to reproduce errors ;-p

It's usually best to limit one thread to one main topic. That way things remain clutter-free and any solution to the problem will be easier to find for users who find the thread later on. VMware loads its kernel modules and runs its services after system boot. 1GB RAM will run two VM guests already but while host hardware is crucial performance depends on more than that alone.
