Hello Everyone,

Here's my situation.I have a HP laptop that came with an inbuilt fingerprint recognizer.Obviously,this only works with vista.I've moved on to linux and have the greatest desire to get the fingerprint recognizer working for linux.

From the minimal knowledge I have about linux I know I need to build a device driver.
I know every biometric aspect about the fingerprint reading i.e. the image processing, closed set classification etc etc. so i can build a fingerprint classifier given the finger prints
But my issue is how do i get the fingerprint reader to read my fingerprint in the form of an image and so on.

Any help to start me off would be extensively appreciated


ps:if i'm actually sucessful with this, i aspire to make it an authentication mechanism to login to linux.

Well while that is a nice attitude to have, there are already projects to support and work with fingerprint readers under Linux. It isn't as if you are the first person to have ever tried this.

Depending on your hardware, there are binary drivers or the open source ThinkFinger project.
