I'm running an Intel D865perl motherboard. This error message doesn't appear with Fedora Core 1 only with Fedora Core 2 on Install. The message reads.
Unable to align partition properly this probably means that another partitioning tool generated an incorrect partition table, because it didn't have the correct Bios geometry. It is safe to ignore, but ignoring may cause (fixable) problems with some boot loaders.
If you ignore this it will wipe out your MBR on drive one.
I'm also running drive one (master) is XP Pro. Drive two (slave) is Fedora Core 2 ( If I can load it).
Has anyone seen this before. I used Partition Magic 8 to free up 20 gig of sapace.
There are some problems with the latest kernel versions and disk geometry. The information below is to point you in the right direction, I am not very experienced with this. This is mostly from the perspective of a dual boot system already damaged whereas yours.. hopefully.. is still working. Don't panic, this is not necessarily going to happen to your system.. in the past that error could be ignored, but that seems to no longer be true.
Read this bug report to see some of the problems that occur when you ignore that error and continue the install. The best way to deal with that is to re-create the partition table with fdisk.. but as you'll see in the bug report and email below, doing so requires some low level detail work. http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/....cgi?id=115980

Once again, as I've pointed in another thread .. it wasn't the kernel .. I've ran kernel 2.6.6 on FC1 w/o problem .. this has to do with grup/parted .. if you're installing FC2 and got this error message .. you should be panic!! My winxp partition went busted and no way to salvage it (or couldn't find a way the time I had the problem) .. and finally, need to repartition/reformat the whole damn thing .. I wish somebody had come up with the solution sooner when I had the problem .. but well, it was pointed out to me too late..
i had the same message when i installed fc 2. also am dual booting. xp on hda and fc2 on hdb.(2 hd's) had previously had fc 1 installed. also a while ago partitioned it with partition magic 8. it's fine. works great. i did ignore the message.
looks like people are having trouble dual booting when partitioning with fc2.
My computer's hda1 has been installed Windows XP Professional, and I installed the Fedora Core 2 on the extended partition. The same problem occur! How can do I?
If I choice ignore, then some partition will lost!
