Fedora Constantine - partitioning & gui issue

Installation fails with PartitionException: Can't have overlapping partitions

I am trying to install Fedora in my Laptop as a dual boot.
I tried to create partitions like root ext4 then /home & /var lvm and swap
but after applying write changes to disk I am getting

PartitionException: Can't have overlapping partitions.
So I tried several times just normal partitions etc. but didnt work.

I found this on net

Code:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=499544
&
Code:
Installation fails with PartitionException: Can't have overlapping partitions

link to this item - Bugzilla: #499544

Several users have reported installation failures while attempting to re-use or resize existing disk partitions during an install. The most common reproducer occurs while resizing existing partitions under the Create custom layout partitioning option. If you encounter this failure and the use of existing partitions is required, it is recommended that you resize your partitions prior to performing the installation. This page will be updated when more information is available.
Moreve as suggested
so I manually created partition from my xp management console and tried to install, and as suggested it worked.

Now when Installation Proceeds, it didn't offer an option to select packages etc.
And when installation completed it took me to 3 rd run-level.
When I am trying to init 6, it starts services and stuck at crond.

So I have 2 Q
1- I had never faced this issue in earlier versions, how come this is getting an issue. Is there any patch fix or do I have 2 wait for next release.Anyone else with same issue.

2. How can I make choice of packages while installation.

PS:In the Very beginning I thought above problem could be due to graphical installation.Hence later on I tried in textual mode (linux text )

Thnx & Regds,
Nachiket

Can you show us "fdisk -l" ?
Are you using the LiveCD or the DVD for installation? If you are using the LiveCD, you are not given the option of choosing packages."
Maybe look at Xorg.0.log and see if there is any error messages explaining why "X" won't start.

I've only seen the partition error when dual booting with Windows 7, so I can't help pointing you to a patch, I thought from your post you finished the install and it won't boot into "X".

I'm curious if your using the LiveCD. Most of my problems installing Fedora came when trying to install off the LiveCD, so I use the DVD exclusively.

hi
I used DVD and my other os was M$ xp.
BTW when I selected an option of install system with basic video driver, installation completed properly.
No error pop up in Partitioning as well had a choice of package selection.

But I still confused why is it so happened,Coz installation with basic video driver option occurred in GUI only.
where as earlier even text installation had an issue.

thnx

I'm just remembering that I had to use basic video driver option on some of my F12 installs, and I had 7300, 8600 & 9800 Nvidia cards, which were covered by most other installs. Maybe that the nouveau driver which gets installed by default was still early in it's development when F12 was released.
There are problems with Anaconda (the Fedora installer), many have been ironed out for Fedora 13, which I've been able to install successfully without any problems (so far).
As far as choosing packages, I do believe you have to be installing from gui on the DVD in order to be able to make package choices.
