FC6: nVidia installed but resolution can't change

I was able to install the nVidia driver on Fedora Core 6, a clean install...

yum kmod-nvidia...

It installed w/o any error and I could see the Logo when I restarted X and when I did glxinfo|grep direct... It said Direct X was rendering. However when I went to change to resolution there was no other resoultion to change to and it was stuck at 800 by 600.

I VIed /etc/X11/xorg.conf and decided to change nVidia to nv, however when I do that the driver doesn't work and grep direct outputs errors. I was wondering what I should do b/c I've been using linux for all of two months I'm pretty much a newb...

btw here is my xorg.conf

Try adding
Code:
Modes "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
as next line after 'Depth 24'

Thanx this helped me out a lot... I can't help but think something didn't go down right during the install... and I can't get Desktop-Effects to work... I get this error when I try running it from the terminal...

Quote:
[root@resnet-130-184-88-105 fdockery]# desktop-effectscompiz: SmcOpenConnection failed: Authentication Rejected, reason : None of the authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based authentication failed
compiz: GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap is missing
compiz: Failed to manage screen: 0
compiz: No managable screens found on display :0.0

I've tried to reinstall via yum...

Again,Thanx for the help on the first problem.

For the desktop effects to work, you need to install nvidia 9626 drivers with AIGLX support available at livna-testing repo.
See livna for more info http://rpm.livna.org
