FC6: Firefox locks up system
Folks,
That's a looong time I haven't swear at an OS, even a Windows one ! But this time around, it's getting frustrating. After running for years LFS (Linux from scratch) systems successfully at home and work, I switched to SuSE. I was generally pleased with how the packaging of the OS and everything was made. Then they made a deal with MS and I thought, well, let's change... to Fedora. So I installed Fedora 6 on my dual core AMD X86_64 machine. Although everything mostly runs fine (that is, for making music using jackd, Ardour, Seq24, Zyn, etc...) while running Beryl and KDE, it happens way too often that Firefox is suddenly not responding (generally NOT while making music or while any music apps are loaded), something indicated with Beryl by Firefox loosing all colours, and at the same time the whole system is jammed ! No way to even Ctrl-Alt-F1(2,3,4) to a plain console to see what's going on an eventually kill some apps.
Total system lock up.
And then Fedora does not erase the contents of the /tmp directory while rebooting, so the X server lock files are still there and the X server refuses to start.
That's when the swearing comes in.
So, has anyone experienced something similar and if so, did you ever find a solution to this ? There are no Firefox updates listed by Kyum as of today, so what I have is the latest. Maybe I should not use Beryl ? The system uses the open source Nvidia driver, if that matters.
Thanks for any hints, suggestions, etc...
