Thumbs up My 2c

Ok, here is what I understand your system is telling you.

>[root@localhost ~]# iwconfig
>lo no wireless extensions.

This device has no wireless capability.

>Warning: Driver for device dev1804289383 has been compiled with version 20
>of Wireless Extension, while this program supports up to version 19.
>Some things may be broken...

Your system for some reason is calling your wireless NIC as dev180489383 not eth1 as you have referred to in your earlier posts. I have this warning on my laptop wireless adapter as well but it still works.

>dev1804289383 IEEE 802.11b ESSID:"" Nickname:"HERMES I"

Your wireless card is not associated with any ESSID

> Mode:Managed Frequency:2.452 GHz Access Point: None
> Bit Rate:11 Mb/s Sensitivity:1/3
> Retry limit:4 RTS thrff Fragment thrff
> Encryption keyff
> Power Managementff
> Link Quality=0/92 Signal level=134/153 Noise level=134/153
> Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
> Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

Your card is running at 11 Mb and there is currently no encryption. The rest is the details of the signal strength and frequency. That relates to the channel you are using.

>eth0 no wireless extensions.

>sit0 no wireless extensions.

Your ifconfig is just saying that currently none of the interfaces is connected to an IPV4 or V6 network. If you have the eth0 plugged in you may have a problem. If not then it all looks ok, apart from your wireless not being connected.

From this point you should be able to type

iwconfig dev1804289383 essid Home

This will associate your card with the AP. Now these next two steps I am not sure of the sequence as my laptop is at work to check them. If they dont work then swap them around.

ifconfig dev1804289383 up

dhclient dev1804289383

Next type in ifconfig -a and you should see your network card with an IP address.

You can also use the

iwlist dev1804289383 scanning

to display the access points around your area. Your Home network should be listed.

Have you used the man pages? I just ask as most of this is in the man pages but is written for computer programmers and can be hard to understand. Type man wireless as this is a good place to start.

I hope this helps you.
