Hi All, Well, I am now aware of the dual boot/geometry prob with FC2. Problem is I cannot get xp to reinstall. fdisk, disk druid, qdisk whatever, xp will not reload on my maxtor 80gig after fc2 is removed. fc1, mdk, rh9 no probs at all, looks like a dead drive except linux works great. Any ideas for an already pooched hdd? Thanks in advance!
Try wiping the master boot record and the entire drive to zero's, you can also get a utility from the HD maker, and try to use it to reformate. For me wipe to zero fixes most problems.
From my experience, always install Windows first and leave enough free space for Linux, or install over the whole disc, then repartition with disk druid or some 3rd party repartitioning software (I recommend Partition Magic....but don't pay a lot for it). I may have read the post wrong, and if I did, sorry, but I know I had similar problems trying to get Linux on my computer and the best advice I got was to always install Windows first.
Thanks for the replies all....I finally got 1 up and running. The problem I had was, as soon as xp setup would reboot after copying set up files, would say 'error loading operating system. I used Maxblast 3 to write 0's, disk druid, qpart and wins fdisk utilities. Turns out setting my hdd detection in bios from 'auto' to 'LBA' fixed it. I found that in the forum here last night, couldn't tell ya where! Now I can get my Linux back up and running. Thanks for the rplies again folks.
