Things were actually working fine until today. When i boot my machine, I am getting the following message :
/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 : File system with error , check forced.
It then shows a progress bar which runs upto 9.4% and then it displays -10.4% and the screen goes blank and nothing happens after that even for more than 5 mins.
Does anyone know why this is happening and how I can resolve this?
>backup?
Nope. I dont.:|
Actually,I dont even have the installation cds right now. Is there some way of booting into the rescue mode without the discs? I have another machine that runs FC-4.Is there some way to revive this system through the network?
I don't network, but you could use the other machine to download and burn a rescue disk (I use Knoppix). Use this to recover your data and then look into doing a net re-install of the corrupted filesystem. If all else fails you should be able to burn a new Fedora Core iso and use that to re-install.
Thanks. I went into run level 1 and ran an fsck. Lost some data in one of the sub-directories, but the system is atleast booting now. Besides, its now complaining that it is not able to detect my sound card.
