Did you happen to install it with Selinux in enforcing mode? You might need to back that off.

I did several FC3 installs today and the CD's worked, at least. The Selinux policy they shipped looked a bit draconian to me so I told it to warn rather than enforce.

Anything in var/log/security or messages?

SElinux sounds familiar.. so maybe that got in there. but i dont know for sure because i just did the automated update from FC2 (mainly in hopes that i could burn in my user account)

to be honest i dont know much technically about linux because i dont use it for much more than basic computer uses. all i know is that since i did the kernal upgrade in fc2 ive had problems with my CDR and now in FC3 i cant even rip, and the updates dont work, period. ive tried going in through yum and through the graphical update software

in yum i cant import the (gpg) keys
in the graphical software it gives me a "cannot be found error"

and to add to my frustration firefox crashes all the time.

i dont know how else to say this stuff. im sorry if im not helpful.

Credit given to "benjithegreat98"

You can change this in the /etc/selinux/config
To SELINUX=disabled and SELINUXTYPE=targeted .

[root@gmbackupsvr selinux]# cat config
# This file controls the state of SELinux on the system.
# SELINUX= can take one of these three values:
# enforcing - SELinux security policy is enforced.
# permissive - SELinux prints warnings instead of enforcing.
# disabled - SELinux is fully disabled.
SELINUX=disabled
# SELINUXTYPE= type of policy in use. Possible values are:
# targeted - Only targeted network daemons are protected.
# strict - Full SELinux protection.
SELINUXTYPE=targeted

I get the exact same error
"dev/hdc: cannot read superblock"

If its not a data disc, FDC3 wont recognize it.

How much memory do you have in this box, When I went to fedora 2 I was using 128m of memory and this worked fine. When I went to FC3 I noticed that the system hung up alot. I added another stick of 128m and now the updating process works fine.

Open up the Terminal application from Applications/System Tools. At the command prompt type cat /etc/fstab. I too am getting irritated with CD woes in FC3. I can only read data CDs. If I put an audio CD in my CD-R drive it locks up. If I put it in my CD-RW drive it starts to play but I get no sound. This bloomin thing worked fine with FC2.
