I found what I think is a good doc on how to install ati drivers for SUSE. I plain on giving that a whirl this weekend. I will let you know how it turns out.
I installed them because xv extension now works under 64-bit linux ( single monitor ). Nothing else important is changed when compared to previous version.
Good site to look information is www.phoronix.com and their forums.
Yes. Symbolic link has to be created before running installation script.
Edit: There are other things which go wrong in xorg.conf file but that is affected AFTER running installation script succesfully and installing generated rpm files.
I started having problems with my X1600 video card after installing the latest ATI driver. When I remove the ati drivers (rpm -e $(rpm -qa | grep fglrx), and use the vesa default drivers my screens are crystal clear, but when I install the ati drivers my left screen is blurry while my right screen is clear.
su
rpm -ivh http://rpm.livna.org/livna-release-6.rpm
yum install kmod-fglrx
All being well a few minutes later you can restart x and enjoy ATI 3d acceleration.
i'm a newbee too and i have the same card on almost the same system , but running on ubuntu 64 , so what is the above command for ubuntu terminal ? 10x
I had this problem for ages on the x1600 xt card and all i did in the end was reinstall restricted modules. That was it, all working fine, talking about the direct rendering problem.
