arp -a

I thought arp tables were cached locally (ie when you ping someone you should be able to see their mac address with arp -a) but for some reason I can't see anything but the gateway. I can see local arp tables on windows boxes but not my new Fedora 5 box. Any suggestions?

You may even have to ping some individual boxen -- my GF's 2k doesn't show up in arp -a unless is has been individually pinged.
