in my linux crash course, (ending my first week), i can tell you with certainty that the 32bit version runs excellent on my amd64.

i would also like to know the pro's/con's of running the 64bit version. are there any speed differences? i had the 64bit version installed for about 3 hours and did not notice any obvious difference. it looked and felt identical to me.

Yes, x86_64 (unlike IA64) is an extension of x86 and so is compatible with 32-bit x86 (and even 16-bit) apps. but you may have to install it manually because I don't know if you can get Yum to install and update 32-bit apps for you. There are certain proprietary software, like Java plugin and Flash, that are only released for 32-bit; and so commonly people on 64-bit run a 32-bit browser, etc.

I use both 32 bit and 64 bit distros. Everything works and works better in the 32 bit so I rarely bother with the 64 bit. I believe 64 bit boots up faster. No Opera browser 64 bit which really turns me off.
