.xsession & gdm

I got a .xsession that works great with "startx" yet it doesn't do anything with gdm, is there some way to change this? Or will i have to remove gdm? Normally i wouldn't complain about this, but i need japanese input which requires some exports and other things in a script. Anyone know how to fix this? Which file does gdm run when it starts x? Thanks.

~/.xsession has originally been the config file for xdm but I think you can make gdm to read it if you choose something like "default system session" from gdm's menu.
