"Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0"."

This seemed to crop up a lot in 2005 but not recently!

However: I have a brand new Gigabyte M/B with an AMD A10 6800K processor and 4 Gb RAM. I have been struggling with it for 6 weeks but cannot get past the error message in the title.

lspci detects the Graphics Card as a Radeon HD 8670D. Strangely Knoppix detects it as something else and enables DRI!

The official AMD drivers and the Debian fglrx driver fail to install - the DKMS part of the installation fails. The Xserver-xorg-video-radeon driver at least gives me something which can play some games.

I would appreciate advice on fixing this.

Thanks.

I have given up trying to get the graphics on this CPU to work. Somehow the system was further broken by recent updates so that I lost GLX as well.

I have installed an Nvidia 610c card and after a LOT of hassle got it working except that "XFree86-DRI" is still missing from the display.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
