Wireless/package questions
Hello,
I have a few questions:
Hardware: HP Pavilion ze5385 notebook w/ internal wireless lan
1) When I did an install, no PCMCIA devices were detected and it was recommended that I did not include PCMCIA support (I ignored and installed anyway). Is an internal wireless card not considered a PCMCIA device? Either way, shouldn't my network device have been detected? I don't see any specific reference to any wireless device in dmesg. Should I be looking for some other reference for an internal wireless lan?
2) I've read through the wireless HOWTO, performed google searches, searched through many posts on this and other sites -- I'm starting to get frustrated as half the recommended avenues don't seem to work for me or require even more in-depth research.
For example, one instruction set says to apt-get wireless-tools; this will make config SO much easier. Yeah well, when I try, it throws an error "Package wireless-tools has no installation candidate." Now, other apt-gets I've done tell me to pop in my CD1 and then gets it. The included list of packages with Woody CD1 lists wireless-tools as an included package. Why, then, do I not get a typical "install the CD" message and apt-get then fetches like the other packages?
What do I have to do to get this wireless card working (works fine in both FreeBSD and XP)?
