Thanks for your post. Most of the mentioned fixes work quite well. mrhyde went out of the way to help, so I just used his method and kept on trucking. The one that seems to fit the Debian methodology best is the 2nd post in the link in post #9 => Install the hwtools package. You will then notice that the script /etc/init.d/hwtools has a spot reserved for your hdparm settings.
All that other static went over my head. I just wanted my hdparm settings to hold whenever I reboot. They do. I now get some great performance, but that's in Jeremy's thread.
This is off topic, but then again, why wouldn't that fit this thread? We moved to China from Pensacola. Where abouts in LA are you located? Maybe we'll say hello if we visit again.
Man, I wish I'd met you and gotten some help with Linux before we moved to China. I was living in Molino in 2000 and installed RedHat, but gave up after a short time.
Ah, well, I'm about to recompile my kernel the Debian way, and am committed to fixing what breaks instead of doing the old M$ reinstall method. I'll very soon be up to speed with Linux. And then, soon thereafter, M$ free. I look forward to that with great expectation!
I had some problems with that kernel, and being from a Micro$loth frame of mind, I reinstalled Debian once again (8th time maybe). I bumped another thread http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...threadid=78291
to try to get some help with one issue, and it's lead to a very verbose and helpful thread from Corin.
Now, I am about to recompile my kernel the Debian way.
If you get bored, you could follow the thread above, though we've kinda gone off to email because of so many details. Thanks for your help and attention.
BTW, did you attend LinuxWorld? I know you had guests, etc., and I missed seeing you on the boards. I often read your posts just to learn, even if it doesn't apply to my situation at the moment.
