Wheezy to Testing: About my sources.list

Hi All,

I've just installed the Debian testing cd but notice that the sources.list file references Wheezy not testing. I realize Wheezy is testing at this point but I want to track testing, not Wheezy, especially with Wheezy becoming stable soon. Below is my sources.list file. I'm thinking that this should be as easy as just changing all Wheezy instances to testing but want to confirm. Thanks in advance for the help. BTW- when I switch to testing, can I just comment out the security repos?

Wheezy has become stable already (a couple of weeks ago, if I'm not wrong). So, yes, if you want to use testing, you need to change the "wheezy" instances to "testing" or "jessie", which is the codename for the current testing release (I'd suggest to use "testing" instead, in case you want to always stay in the testing branch).

I'm not sure about the security repository, since I use Sid, but I think you still need it. (Check this link for more information). Also, I think the last two lines are not needed (you can comment them out and keep them for a while, just in case).

After you edit your sources.list, execute:

Code:
apt-get update
apt-get upgrade
apt-get dist-upgrade
Be careful with the last command since it could attempt to remove important packages.

You only need the following in your sources to run testing
Code:
deb http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ testing main contrib non-free
deb-src http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ testing main contrib non-free
