How our the kernels difference between the Sids versions?
Besides their not being apt-setup in knoppix what other programs does sid have that knoppix does not have etc..also
the source kernels in 3.4 missing from the linux system not their yet..
I has bootable from both 2.6.6 kernel and the 2.4 kernel but lacks in no 2.6 kernel source tree

Sid is unstable.....
Knoppix is based on testing i believe...
also...
apt-get installl apt-setup will setup apt-setup in you knoppix distro
in Debian: woody is the stable version at the moment,
sarge is the testing version, will probably become the stable in a few months
sid is the unstable, where software arrives first, before it enters testing in Debian.
Sid will always stay the unstable. The name sid refers to the Toy Story boy who destroyed toys. All Debian names are from Toy Story
if knoppix 3.4 is based on testing , then
when you bootup it to the harddrive is
says in lilo
debian
GNU/linux unstable 'Sid'
under this it has
Linux
Linux(2.4)-1
Linux(2.6)-2
WinXP/2k(hda1)
not the testing one but it seems as if it is the unstable version???
it is not based on woody , it is (debian) knoppix 3.4 sid

those are just different kernel versions....
..please keep all your posts for this topic under one thread ...multiple thread creation for the same topic only a waste of bandwidth, time and efficiency.
KNOPPIX is indeed testing(Sid) but the 3.4 version uses the new 2.6 Linux kernel, while Debian is still using the 2.4 kernel. Confusing, I know, but that's how things are...;-)
If you go to debian.org, and READ, you will find that there are 3 versions of Debian:
Stable/Woody
Testing/Sarge
Unstable/Sid
all 3 versions with different packagages etc
If you go to knoppix.net and READ, you will find that:
knoppix is based on Stable, Testing, and Unstable, plus Experimental
knoppix is a mixture of all of the above, used primarily as a live cd, rescue disk, it's supposed to
be used as is. in order to give new users an idea of what linux is all about.
Please do some reading on the subject, visit knoppix newsgroups and also the knoppix channel (#knoppix) on the IRC for more information.
