looks like debian pure is just what i am looking for. I can set up a full desktop, with wireless networking tools, that is 100% debian, all from one cd. thanks for the info!

No problem. Just don't forget to read everything you can about Debian..
The nicest thing about installing with the netinstall from Debian is the
post-configuration part. Then you learn how to set up and mainly how
things work.
