Hi, I have recently set up a headless samba/apache server for my dept in the company. (Using a borrowed monitor to complete the initial installation, and thereafter using putty/ssh in another M$ machine to finisihed up the whole set up). Samba and apache is working, but i prefer to use webmin to manage the servers. after i apt-get webmin-samba webmin-apache, i realized that debian has defaulted the access to only the localmachine. That means I need to have X installed in order to start a browser and enter webmin to disable the restriction. But my server's onboard vga just wont work with etch or sarge. It kept failing.
So my question is, how can I remove or change the access restriction without entering X in the localhost? I dont have any other linux boxes, the server is the one and only in the small dept that I am working in.
I wanted to install wordpress, but my understanding on setting up mysql are all based on webmin, without it i am lost. Furthermore, I enjoy using webmin, it's , IMO, a really good tool. Lastly, I can get webmin from source, and install it , all without the defaulted restrictions but i dont like this as i am deviating from the debian pool of packages and fear incompatability in the future.
Looking forward for a tip or direction.
TIA

How can I change Webmin's list of allowed IP addresses from the shell?
The file you need to modify is /etc/webmin/miniserv.conf , in particular the allow= or deny= lines. If the allow= line exists, it contains a list of all addresses and networks that are allowed to connect to Webmin. Similarly, the deny= line contains addresses that are not allowed to connect. After modifying this file, you need to run /etc/webmin/stop ; /etc/webmin/start for the changes to take effect. Naturally, the file can only be edited by the root user.
Sorry for listing this question here, I should have known, it's all in the FAQ
farslayer, thanks, i found out the same too, i always use links for my console browser, it wont work in SSL(at least to my limited knowledge), but lynx can do it so wonderfully. Thanks anyway.
