vbetool vbestate save Segmentation fault

Hya,

One of my penguins, Debian etch (2.6.20.11) complains at startup
Code:
Segmentation fault vbetool vbestate save
I posted several mohth ago, but no reply. http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...d.php?t=552260
Also, web search and Debian package log are not much help.

So, I am trying to troubleshoot myself. However, the source file (I downloaded from Debian site, tar.gz) does not have README (INSTALL) or whatever... ./configure and make give me an error ***No rule to make target /usr/local/lib/libpci.a.

At this moment, I am a kind of totally helpless.

If anybody can direct me (or any kind of help), I will very much appreciate.

Happy Penguins!

Hya,

Thanks. Now I can run vbetool under ddd (gdb).

Something looks weird, gdb complains
Code:
main (argc=Cannot access memory at address 0x4) at vbetool.c:63
and
Code:
Can't get video state buffer size
and finally
Code:
ES: 0x1101 EBX: 0x000
Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
0x0804a1a5 in run_vm86 () at lrmi,c:534
I think I traced right, however, I do not know the way to read assembly code (asm volatile "int $0x80 : "=a" (r)....

Can anybody help?

Happy Penguins!

edit: I tried several two other penguins, which does not give error. One of them shows the first error (argc=....), the other goes without any message.

Hya,

Is anybody a member of following list? I think it is same nature. As I cannot read/write Spanish, I cannot contact (or even sign up to that list)

Hya,

I also checked another (older version 0.5.1) from www.linuxpackages.net.

Result is same, Segmentation fault.

Happy Penguins!
