usplash problem

I'm trying out usplash, and the theme debian-edu-artwork-usplash. During my startup sequence, the video card strobes the screen for a second, and though this doesn't matter when I'm looking at text, it disrupts usplash. When the screen strobes, usplash disapears and only text is shown. Anybody know how to disable this strobe, maybe by editing menu.lst?

No, you don't need to look at the bootmenu. look in the X-org config file instead. I suspect that this comes from probing your monitor by the X-server during boottime. The only solution IMHO is telling the server what resolution and frequency to use, w/o probing the hardware. For me I don't like that fancy stuff, so that's my best guess for now ;-)

I had to comment out unicode_stop in /etc/init.d/console-screen.sh and /etc/init.d/keymap.sh to prevent the bootsplash from flickering during boot.
I commented out the whole line. It looked something like this:
Code:
# unicode_stop 2> /dev/null|| true
Is that right? It didn't work quite right for me. The usplash screen dissapeared and at the same time the startup text was gone too. What does 'unicode_stop' do normally?

Dutch Master:
I tried making sure my hardware was specified in the xorg.conf file too. It wasn't before, but now it is. That didn't stop the flicker.
