USB Hard Drive Not recognised (irq 201: nobody cared!)

Hi,

I am trying to get a USB hard drive to work with my Debian sarge (2.6 kernel). When I plug the device into the machine I get the following messages in dmesg:

Code:
irq 201: nobody cared!
 [<c0107c2e>] __report_bad_irq+0x31/0x73
 [<c0107cd4>] note_interrupt+0x4c/0x6f
 [<c0107e92>] do_IRQ+0x92/0xf9
 [<c010697c>] common_interrupt+0x18/0x20
handlers:
[<e00671f1>] (usb_hcd_irq+0x0/0x4e [usbcore])
Disabling IRQ #201
Subsequently the device doesn't work. What can I do to fix this?

I have read many posts which suggest adding irqpoll as a boot option. Will this work and what exactly does it do?

Many thanks for your time.

From TFM, irqpoll makes the kernel ask every interrupt handler if they want to handle the interrupt in question whenever one fires.

And we have no idea if it will work for your specific setup. Try it.
