Updating Debian-based distro: Gnome 2.2 damaged
Hello,
I am running a good Spanish Debian-based distro built by IBM and one of our local Universities.
The distro. ships with Gnome 2.2 by default, with a 2.4.18 kernel, although its apt routes point to the unstable trees (sid).
Just after installing, I have run
# apt-get update
# apt-get upgrade
which as a result have damaged Gnome 2.2 (at least). Main symptom:
All folders are "grey", showing no content.
Apparently the Gnome 2.2 tree has been "discontinued", and I am not at all sure what this means.
How come I use apt-get upgrade, Gnome 2.4 is shown whilst it gets downloaded, but doesn't get installed?.
To cut a long story short:
I am thinking of switching to Debian (from Red Hat), but would want to find a base distro that would get continuously upgraded, with no fresh installs ever again.
Is this at all possible?.
The only requirement: Gnome.
Any help greatly appreciated.
