unstable - problem after upgrade

Hi,

I'm on debian unstable and after a dist-upgrade I have a problem with some programs.

For example if I start gimp, system gets me out of the session and show me login form of lightdm
It also happens when I use firefox and I try to open a thread on twitter.

I can't understand what the problem is

I looked at /var/log/syslog an this is the result:

That's your answer above. Faithfully report your problems to them, and they will sort it. They needd yourt feedback.

I know, you forget the 'unstable' part of Debian unstable. It sounds like something is amiss in one of those horribly complex bits of X and it's deciding you have to log in again

hi,

I reported my problem to bugs.debian.org and they help me but I can't solve

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugr...gi?bug=1020421

in the end they suggest me to use the intel X driver in the meantime.
I'm using i915 driver , is not this the intel X Driver ?

Can you help me to understand ?
Thanks in advance

What Intel card have you got?
A number of them now use the crocus driver. Have you tried that?

Give us details on your system. Post the output of 'sudo lspci' and post /var/log/Xorg.0.log on pastebin. You're running an unstable system, and you can probably get back to a stable system with some apt cleverness. Look it up.

i915 is kernel driver, they are talking about Intel X driver, nowadays Xorg defaults to modesetting driver if Intel graphics is detected.

What is it now? Debian devs told you to use Intel driver as a workaround, I think it is a good idea. Intel driver even has some 2D acceleration what modesetting driver does not have. But you want us to debug the modesetting issue for you instead? Don't you think Debian developers are better suited for this job?

sorry , of course not !

I'm asking because I can't understand how to use the intel X driver in the meantime.

SOLVED !

I finally figured out how to force the use of intel drivers and avoid modesetting

I created a xorg.conf file in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d directory and added these lines :

Code:
Section "Device"
   Identifier "Device0"
   Driver "intel"
EndSection
thank you all
