1. What's your soundcard
2. What's 'discover'?

The steps for getting it to work:
Load the module for your soundcard
Run chmod 660 /dev/dsp
Run chgrp audio /dev/dsp

From the discover website

What is Discover?

Discover is a set of libraries and utilities for gathering and reporting information about a system's hardware. Discover uses OS-specific modules to detect the hardware present on the system, and provides a system-independent interface for querying XML data sources about this hardware
Discover is similiar to Kudzu and HWD. I currently have it installed on my Debian box.

Have you tried google linux : debian soundblaster install?
You should find other post like your's and maybe a solution or on this site searching with the details of the hardware.

Good luck, Marc A
