SLOW boot with 2.6.15

Hello. I used debian netinstall to install

title Debian GNU/Linux, kernel 2.6.12-1-386

on my pentium 3 linux router. I upgraded the kernel with aptitude to:

title Debian GNU/Linux, kernel 2.6.15-1-686

and when I load that kernel my machine boots and shutsdown and RUNS completely slow. Like, 3x slower. I have gone back to the i386 kernel until I can find out why this is running so slow. Has anyone experienced something similar? If so, how was it corrected?

yes
80386 = 386
80486 = 486
pentium/K5 = 586
pentium Pro, II, III, IV, M, AMD K6, K7 = 686

Have you checked the system log for any error messages?

Peace...
