This is my first post here. I just installed Debian Squeeze 64 and I changed my sources.list, replacing "squeeze" with "sid". I came to Debian from Arch and really want a rolling release, bleeding edge install. Did I do it right? It seems to update the repos OK, but I haven't installed anything since I did that.
Also, how do I install flash? Is there an official package or do I need to get it from Adobe?
Thank you for you reply. I did try that but when I went to install flashplayer-mozilla, it told me there was no file to install, or words to that effect, I can't remember exactly.
To get flash working you an either (a) use the opensource gnash package or (b) get the plugin from Adobe. If you opt for (b) then all you need to do is bung the file libflashplayer.so in the plugins folder of your browser. Note that Adobe has (temporarily???) suspended the 64 bit version of the flash plugin so you'll have to use their 32 bit version. You can get an older (10.0 r42) 64 bit version if you look around a bit. The last time I looked gnash only went up to version 9 of their plugin.
ciao,
jdk
Package flashplayer-mozilla is not available but is referenced by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, been obsoleted or
is only available from another source
package flashplayer-mozilla has no installation candidate.
I got it working in my 64-bit SID by adding debian multimedia repos. Install the squeeze version of ia32-libs. Put ia32-libs on hold (echo "ia32-libs hold" | dpkg --set-selections) then installing nspluginwrapper, fakeroot, binutils.
run this script and then install the .deb package it downloads via dpkg.

Just did an upgrade, and the ia32-libs from squeeze is no longer needed. they have upgraded ia32-libs-gtk in sid now to match the ia32-libs version, so skip that now and it should work. Just go ahead and start with installing nspluginwrapper, fakeroot, binutils and ia32-libs, then downloading and running the script I linked to, and installing the file it downloads via dpkg.
Actually, don't even need the script either anymore. So it works like it really should now, although I don't know for how long, since obviously it is sid.
Thanks for all the replies. I installed gnash and to my surprise it is working great! It has never worked for me before. I will continue using it, and if I run into a problem I will refer back to this thread for info.
